Trying out NextSpace on Slackware -current with XLibre.

A modern implementation inspired by the classic NeXTSTEP desktop. It's interesting to see how its design and workflow still feel relevant decades later.

Definitely a fun project to explore.

On Jul 5, a #GarudaLinux user was seeking help related to #XLibre and Garuda packages on the Garuda forum. He's been told to remove XLibre and the thread has been locked.

We fixed the underlying dependency issue and assure you that you're welcome at github.com/xlibre-arch.

I have replaced Xlibre on Devuan, and I had an impressive performance boost! Luanti is working at par of Freebsd port, still with some gap in some circumstances.
I used X11 also on FreeBSD and luanti, and the gap I think is tackled on the Kernel. I should put Xlibre also on Freebsd and check how performs.
Also finally I don't perceive microstruttering anymore.

Xlibre is not hot air, no matter what have you heard.

SonicDE Launches as a KDE-Based Desktop for X11 Holdouts

「 The project’s main goal is to maintain compatibility with X.Org Server for as long as possible and to adopt new XLibre features when feasible. Plus, to serve those who still rely on a full X11 session and wish to retain that experience in a KDE-based environment 」

XLibre has landed in Slackware-current's testing tree.

Thanks to Patrick Volkerding for making the packages available for testing, and to the XLibre developers for their work.

Looking forward to seeing how the project evolves.

#XLibre 25.1 Series Feature Highlight

We enabled support for the proprietary Nvidia driver versions 340, 390, and 470 in addition to the already existing support for 570 and newer. So most of your older and newer cards should just work. Currently we're improving hybrid setups.

For my shop machine, I'm now actively testing Debian 14 Testing w/ Xlibre and SonicDE. So far, so good. I use this machine for client work and it also gets to be my guinea pig for testing drawing tablet workflows. Both native Xlibre (via wacom) and Gaomon's proprietary driver work. I'm impressed with how snappy SonicDE is - first time using it today. Great work folks‼️
